+ When Paul went to Athens, he met and debated with two groups of philosophers : the Epicureans who believed in happiness and pleasure in life and that death is the end of everything. They also believed in Gods who were distant and kind of busy. The second group was the Stoics who believed in pain and self-control. They refused idolatry and believed in fate.
+ The Epicureans believed in sensuality and pleasure while the Stoics believed in pain.
